- Nagoya, everyone is moving toward its goal lively in the city -
We wish you a happy New Year.
With the upcoming Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2020, the 20th Asian Games XX Asiad in 2026, and the introduction of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen Line in 2027, which is a national infrastructure project, Nagoya is poised to take a great step forward.
At present, Nagoya is said to be “the least appealing city” of the 8 key cities in Japan.
We should use the fact that the city in which we live is viewed in such a way to generate a commitment to change our city.
Now would be an ideal moment for us to act upon this desire for change under the phrase, “Ten, Chi, Jin”.
“Ten” denotes the luck to have good fortune come one’s way. If people move in sync with auspicious opportunities, then good things happen. “Chi” denotes geographical advantage. And “Jin” denotes harmony among the people.
While the international economic situation remains unpredictable, Japan will convene international events like the Tokyo Olympics, the Paralympics and the Asian Games in a domestic context of long-term, stable economic growth.
These conditions provide us with the opportunity to focus on many future issues without any obstacles.
Nagoya is an important hub linking the flow of people and goods between eastern and western Japan. Once the Linear Chuo Shinkansen Line is introduced, it will be possible to get to Tokyo or Osaka in one hour from Nagoya. Nagoya also features an air gateway, the Chubu Centrair International Airport, and a sea gateway, the port of Nagoya. The larger Shoryudo area which encompasses Gifu and Hokuriku draws many tourists.
Nagoya is prominent in manufacturing. There are many huge car-related companies including Toyota Motor Corporation. Nagoya also is home to a growing aviation and space industry. The first Japanese regional jet aircraft was manufactured here.
Nagoya has established itself as a global leader in advanced industry.
Nagoya is well-positioned to develop due to the harmony which it has forged among its people. We JAYCEEs who have gathered here possess and seek to realize many of the same ambitions with wisdom, courage and passion.
As young businessmen and leaders of our region, we should utilize the domestic and foreign networks at our disposal, including our connections with government, universities and citizen groups, so as to develop each person’s potential, thereby increasing the prominence of JCI Nagoya as a group that knows how to solve issues.
By improving the quality of the members and developing simple, sturdy, resilient people, JCI Nagoya will create a lively city which is moving toward its goals and make it a place which is attractive to live in, to work in and to visit.
“Man is improved and changed by man.”
If people change, the city will change. If the city changes, the nation will change. I believe we can change Nagoya through the dedication of the almost 800 members whose ideas and actions resonate with the heart of the citizens.
I thank you for your attention and appreciate your understanding and support.
